About

Please visit my website/blog at carvewith.me complete information. Check out the sections on Tip of the Week, Videos (courtesy of PSIA), Class Pictures/Videos SlopeTech and Snowology.

I have been teaching skiing since 1996 and am a certified Alpine Level 2 instructor by Professional Ski Instructors of America (PSIA). I’ve worked with clients ranging in ages from 3 to . . . . those with 3 year-old grandchildren. In addition to teaching beginners of all ages, I can also provide specialty clinics for more advanced skiers: * Straights to Shapes – thinking about taking the plunge and buying a pair of those “newfangled” shaped skis or have you bought shaped skis but still ski them using your old technique. * Breaking Out of the Intermediate Rut – everybody’s been there (me too). * The Art of the Carve - the carved turn is the Holy Grail of skiing, do you aspire to that perfect turn but just need a few pointers. * Returning From Your Skibatical – have you been away from skiing for a while (been there too), we can build on what you know and get you back to skiing even better than you did before Starting at Smugglers Notch in VT, I’ve completed a 20 year tour the northern US, having taught in the Midwest Alpine Valley, Cannonsburg, Mt. Holiday in Traverse City MI), the Pacific Northwest (Fiorini’s, Summit at Snoqualmie Pass, WA) and in the Mid-Atlantic (Whitetail, PA). I am currently teaching with the Ski Club of Washington DC and will be back at Smuggs for the holidays this year and then March break. Beyond skiing, I am currently the Director of the BSCI 171 Laboratory program at the University of Maryland (part of their introductory biology sequence). I’ve also worked as a consultant in the areas of educational technology and science education and have been involved with the development of national standards for earth science and climate science literacy and the development and review of online-learning content for McGraw-Hill and Macmillan/Nature. In my free time I am an avid kayaker, mountain bike, hike and natural history photography and videography.
