About

Growing up in Switzerland, in a small village high up in the mountains, Erwin Kollegger learned to ski almost before he learned to walk! Born of two, non-skiing parents, he remembers fondly jumping off roofs and cliffs, getting buried in deep, deep snow, as a child. As a youngster in his nearby, world-renowned, resort (Lenzerheide), he learned to follow the best skiers, right on their ski-tails, some say they could even feel his breath. This technique of shadowing came to serve him well. He became, without any formal instruction, just by way of imitating his idols, one of the best skiers himself!

At 18 years of age, he became one of the youngest ski instructors, certified in all alpine disciplines and, for a few years he trained, raced, and coached with the best and the elite of Switzerland. In 1972 he took his well-learned passion to the US and added to his repertoire Freestyle skiing, a new and fun way of expressing the art of skiing with the likes of Wayne Wong and Floyd Wilkie.
